CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The App State volleyball team closed out its weekend in Charlotte with a sweep of Bryant, winning 25-19, 25-18, 25-22 on Sunday to finish the Charlotte Invitational with a 2-1 record.
The Mountaineers jumped out to an early lead in the first set and kept the momentum rolling as Delanie Grevengoed fired off four consecutive service aces. Following a string of strong offensive plays from Brooke Doherty, App State claimed the opening set, 25-19.
The second set was highlighted by performances at the net from Grevengoed, Chelsea Gilmore and Bella Hutchens. Gilmore continued to make her presence felt at the net after recording 10 blocks in Saturday night’s match. To close out the set, Eva Goodson checked in and served up an ace to give the Mountaineers a 25-18 win.
The third set began slowly, with the Mountaineers and Bulldogs trading points throughout the early stages. Leading 16-13, the Black and Gold found their energy again with Grevengoed back at the service line, where she recorded her eighth ace of the match. App State maintained its advantage to close out the set, 25-22, and complete the sweep.
The Mountaineers finished the weekend 2-1 and earned their second win of the season.
