Iredell Sheriff’s Report Shows Decline In Index Crime Rate
STATESVILLE, N.C. (WHKY) — A newly released annual report shows a substantial decline in the index crime rate in the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office service area, driven mainly by lower property crime.
Sheriff Darren Campbell’s office released the report Wednesday, September 30, using crime statistics through 2024.
The index crime rate fell from 1,641 reported incidents per 100,000 residents in 2014 to 710 in 2024, a decrease of about 57%. Index crimes include murder, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, larceny and motor vehicle theft.
Property crime accounted for most of the decline, falling from 1,470 to 541 incidents per 100,000 residents, or about 63%. The violent-crime rate was nearly unchanged over the decade, moving from 171 to 169.
The latest annual comparison shows the index crime rate dropped about 18%, from 864 in 2023 to 710 in 2024. During that period, property crime declined from 698 to 541, while violent crime increased slightly from 166 to 169.
