Statesville Council To Revisit 41-Home Kingdom Townhomes Proposal

STATESVILLE, N.C. (WHKY) — A residential proposal delayed by a divided Statesville City Council in June is scheduled to return for possible action Monday, October 5. Hezekiah Walker of Love Fellowship Tabernacle Inc. is seeking rezoning and annexation of two parcels at 185 Moose Club Road for a development called Kingdom Townhomes.

The city’s planning material describes a roughly 12-acre project with 32 townhomes and nine detached single-family homes. The application seeks a conditional high-density multifamily zoning designation and would tie development to an approved concept plan and any conditions accepted by the applicant and council.

Council held a public hearing June 15 but postponed the rezoning and annexation decisions for 90 days after Mayor Doug Hendrix broke a tie. The earlier debate focused heavily on extending city services beyond the current limits. City staff said the wastewater plant had capacity, but the project would require pump stations; the developer was willing to install them, while the city would assume future maintenance. The June staff report recommended denial because the site is outside the city’s 2045 Land Development Plan and would expand public-service obligations.

The official October 5 agenda lists first readings for both the rezoning and annexation requests. That means the project remains a proposal and has not been approved. The regular meeting begins at 6 p.m. in the City Council Chambers at Statesville City Hall, 227 South Center Street. A pre-agenda meeting is scheduled for Thursday, October 1, at 4 p.m. in the second-floor conference room.
