HICKORY, N.C. — The City of Hickory has announced a new operating schedule for its Yard Waste Facility, with the site now open Fridays only for mulch and leaf compost sales.

Effective immediately, the facility, located at 310 Cloninger Mill Road NE, will operate from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Fridays, weather permitting.

The city continues to offer single-ground mulch and leaf compost produced from yard waste collected by city crews throughout the year. Both products are available for $25 per three-yard scoop, an amount that typically fills a full-size pickup truck.

City officials say mulch helps retain moisture, reduce evaporation, and improve plant health, making it especially valuable as western North Carolina continues to experience dry conditions. Residents are encouraged to purchase supplies while they are available.

Mulch and compost are sold on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last.
