Zionville Man Arrested in Connection with Armed Robbery at Zaxby’s

35-year-old Mario Rafael Gonzalez of Zionville was arrested by Boone Police last Thursday (May 9) on one felony count of robbery with a dangerous weapon and misdemeanor counts of resisting an officer, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

At about 3 p.m. on the 9th, Boone Officers were alerted to a reported armed robbery in the parking area at the Zaxby’s restaurant on the Highway 105 Extension. The suspect fled the area on foot. Officers responded and identified the suspect. A short time later, a Boone Police Officer located the suspect behind a hotel on U.S. 421 South. The suspect fled on foot, but was taken into custody with the help of a Watauga County Sheriff’s Deputy.

Gonzalez was jailed in the Watauga County Detention Center under no bond. A District Court date was scheduled for May 16 in Boone.

The Boone Police Department expressed its appreciation to the Watauga County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance.
