Woman Killed In Wednesday Hit & Run

Wednesday (September 23) shortly after 11:30 a.m. a white Toyota Tacoma pickup truck was traveling East on West Water Street in Statesville when the vehicle veered off the roadway to the right and onto the sidewalk just before the parking lot at the Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) 121 West Water Street. The Toyota was operated by a 73-year-old Iredell County woman. The pickup truck then continued east on the sidewalk and struck a woman, causing non-life threatening injuries.

The pickup continued east, still on the sidewalk, and struck a second victim, Sandra Woodside Hager. Both pedestrians were standing in line at the DMV office. Life saving measures were implemented on scene by an off duty EMS employee until the Statesville Fire Department arrived on scene, who continued life saving measures on Ms. Hager. Ms. Hager was transported to Iredell Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced deceased.

The Toyota Tacoma pickup truck was not on the scene of the crash and was later found at 224 Davie Avenue along with the driver of the truck. The woman who sustained non-life threatening injuries was transported to Iredell Memorial Hospital where she was treated and released. The investigation is still ongoing by the Statesville Police Department Traffic Unit Division. If you have any information, contact the Statesville Police Department at 704-878-3406 or Iredell Crime Stoppers at 704-662-1340.
