A woman was killed after being struck by a vehicle on an interstate Sunday in Iredell County. At approximately 6:05 p.m. Sunday the NC State Highway Patrol responded to a collision on I-77 North near mile marker 38. The occupants of a northbound vehicle were reportedly involved in a verbal altercation and stopped partially in the roadway.
The driver, 20-year-old Amari Janae Wilson of Statesville, exited and was struck by another vehicle as she attempted to cross the travel lanes. She was transported to Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte but passed away as a result of her injuries overnight. Traffic was diverted at Exit 36 (NC 150) for approximately two hours as the northbound lanes were closed during the on-scene investigation.
