Woman Killed In Crash, Charges Filed

A woman was killed in an Iredell County crash. The victim is 43-year-old Sandra Forney Jackson of Statesville.

On Monday (February 19) at approximately 5:40 p.m., the North Carolina State Highway Patrol responded to U.S. 70 near Fanjoy Road. A 2005 Hummer H2 was traveling east on U.S. 70, crossed the centerline, and collided head-on with a westbound 2005 Honda Pilot. The initial collision caused the Hummer to continue eastbound and collide head-on with a 2001 Ford F-350.

The driver of the Hummer, 20-year-old Lizbeth Estrada Mojica of Statesville, was transported by EMS to Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist, with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Pilot, Sandra Forney Jackson, passed away as a result of her injuries at the scene. A juvenile passenger in the vehicle was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Ford, a Statesville resident, received minor injuries. The initial investigation does not indicate impairment or speed to be contributing factors in the collision. All occupants were restrained by seatbelts. U.S. 70 was closed in the area for approximately four hours during the on-scene investigation. Mojica was charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle, left of center, and driving while license revoked.
