Woman Injured In Late Night Shooting In Newton

A shooting incident in Newton is under investigation. On Thursday (May 13) at approximately 10:50 p.m., Newton Police responded to a report of shots being fired into a house at an address on South Caldwell Avenue. Upon arrival, officers found a woman inside the house with a life-threatening gunshot wound. The victim was transported by EMS to Catawba Valley Medical Center before being flown to Atrium Health in Charlotte. Her condition was not released.

Additional occupants of the house, one adult female and three small children, were all uninjured. Investigators processed the scene and collected evidence. There is no suspect information at this time. The Newton Police Department was assisted on this case by the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office, Catawba County EMS and Newton Fire Department.
