38-year-old Randy Wayne Dowell of the Wilkes County town of Ronda was arrested Saturday (September 26) by Iredell County Sheriff’s Officers. He’s charged with felony assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, and two misdemeanor counts of going armed to the terror of the public.
Saturday at approximately 9 a.m. one call was received about shots being fired in the area of Bacon Road, a short time later a second call was received in reference to an armed intoxicated man walking around in Jolly’s Campground. Patrol Deputies quickly responded to the area. When they arrived several witnesses told the deputies where the suspect’s truck and trailer was, it had become stuck in a muddy area.
Officers found and detained the suspect, Randy Wayne Dowell. Deputies conducted interviews with witnesses who told them the incident started out as a domestic argument between Dowell and a woman. Witnesses said the suspect fired three shots. A search of the suspect’s vehicle and trailer resulted in the discovery of a pistol that was hidden under a mattress in the trailer.
Dowell’s bond was set at $15,000 secured. He is not currently listed as an inmate in Iredell County. A District Court appearance is scheduled for October 19.
