Wednesday Morning COVID-19 Update: Virus-Associated Deaths Reported In Three Hickory Metro Counties

A coronavirus-associated death was reported in Catawba County Tuesday (October 27). It’s the 64th COVID-19-related fatality in the county. Catawba County Public Health also reported 42 new cases of the virus Tuesday, raising the overall total to 4,343. There were 33 people hospitalized, one more than Monday (October 26).

Burke County Public Health reported three COVID-19-associated deaths on Tuesday, increasing the total to 57 since the start of the pandemic. One individual was in their 90s and was not hospitalized. Another was in their 80s and was not hospitalized. The third person was in their 60s, was not hospitalized, and had underlying medical conditions.

24 new coronavirus cases were confirmed Tuesday in Burke County, raising the overall total to 3,001. There were seven people hospitalized with COVID-19 in the county and at least 2,533 patients had recovered.

The Caldwell County Health Department reported the 32nd coronavirus-associated death in the county Tuesday. The patient was between the ages of 50 and 64, had been hospitalized, and was reported to have underlying conditions. Seven new COVID cases were confirmed in Caldwell Tuesday, lifting the total to 2,473. Hospitalizations increased to 22, from 19 on Monday. The Health Department reports the number of cases associated with the outbreak at Shaire Center has risen to 22.

No new cases were reported in Alexander County on Tuesday, leaving the total at 822, with nine deaths.
