Wednesday Morning COVID-19 Update: Deaths Reported Tuesday In Catawba, Burke Counties

Three COVID-19-associated deaths were reported Tuesday (December 22) by Catawba County Public Health, increasing the overall total to 143. 128 new cases of the coronavirus were confirmed Tuesday, increasing Catawba County’s total to 10,390. There were 90 people hospitalized with the virus in Catawba County.

Burke County Public Health reported the 76th COVID-19 related death in the county Tuesday. The individual in their 40s was hospitalized, no other information was given. 91 new cases of the coronavirus were reported Tuesday in Burke County, increasing the overall total to 5,633. There were 15 people hospitalized with the virus. The Burke County Health Department is not doing any COVID-19 testing now through January 1, 2021 due to the Christmas holiday closings. Testing will resume on Monday, January 4.

41 new cases of the coronavirus were reported Tuesday in Caldwell County, raising the overall tally to 5,191, with 60 deaths. There were 60 people hospitalized with the virus Tuesday in Caldwell County, the highest single-day total reported during the pandemic. As of Tuesday, there were six active outbreaks in Caldwell County and four active clusters.

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services reported 2,357 cases of COVID-19 in Alexander County today (December 23), an increase of 58 over Tuesday. There had been 26 coronavirus-associated deaths reported in Alexander County as of the NCDHHS update.
