Wednesday Morning COVID-19 Update: Deaths Reported In Catawba County Tuesday, New Cases In All Four Hickory Metro Counties

Three COVID-19-related deaths were reported Tuesday (December 8) by Catawba County Public Health, increasing the total to 106 since the start of the pandemic. 248 new cases of the coronavirus were reported Tuesday, increasing the overall total to 8,340. 248 is the highest single-day total of new cases reported. 80 people were hospitalized with the virus, also a single-day high for Catawba County.

Burke County Public Health today reported 191 new cases of COVID-19 Tuesday, increasing the total to 4,775. There have been 71 coronavirus-related deaths in Burke County and 19 people were hospitalized. 64 new cases of the virus were reported Tuesday in Caldwell County, raising the total to 4,013, with 52 deaths. There were 34 Caldwell County residents hospitalized with COVID-19 Tuesday.

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services reports 1,886 coronavirus cases in Alexander County, an increase of 33 from the previous update. The Alexander County Health Department reported that 155 people were in quarantine with COVID-19 and there were 19 people in the hospital. At least 1,623 Alexander County patients have recovered.
