Wednesday Morning COVID-19 Update: Deaths Reported In Catawba, Burke Counties, Single Day High Of New Cases In Caldwell

Catawba County Public Health reported five COVID-19-related deaths Tuesday (January 5), increasing the total to 175. 221 new cases of the virus were confirmed Tuesday, increasing the total to 12,238. There were 105 people hospitalized with the coronavirus in Catawba County.

Four coronavirus-associated deaths were reported in Burke County Tuesday, increasing the total to 86. One individual was in their 50s, two were in their 80s, and one was over the age of 100. Two were hospitalized and two were not. 197 new COVID-19 cases were reported by Burke County health officials Tuesday, increasing the count to 6,814. There were 29 people hospitalized with the virus.

A pandemic single-day-high of 271 new COVID-19 cases were confirmed Tuesday in Caldwell County, lifting the overall total to 6,439, with 78 deaths. There were 45 people hospitalized. An outbreak was reported Tuesday in Caldwell County, five residents and four staff at ComServ’s Creekside Group Home have tested positive for COVID-19, bringing the number of active outbreaks in the county to eight.

12 new coronavirus cases have been reported in Alexander County in the last day, according to the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services. The total is now 2,839, with 31 deaths.
