Wednesday Morning COVID-19 Update: 24 New Cases Confirmed In Catawba County, Caldwell Purchases Thermal Imaging Systems

24 new cases of COVID-19 were confirmed Tuesday (August 11) in Catawba County, increasing the overall total to 2,185, with 30 deaths. There were 18 people hospitalized with the coronavirus, four fewer than Monday (August 10).

All inmates, staff, contractors, and vendors associated with the Catawba County Detention Facility were tested for the COVID-19 virus between August 1-3. Results of that testing are as follows: Ten inmates out of a total of 235 tested positive. All staff and contractor tests were negative. All positive cases are contained to one housing unit and isolation cells.

The other twelve housing units remain unaffected. Quarantines on the positive cases expire this Thursday (August 13). Testing was being conducted Tuesday to ensure the quarantine can be lifted on the affected housing unit.

15 new cases of COVID-19 were reported in Burke County Tuesday, increasing the overall total to 1,789, with 28 deaths. There were 13 people hospitalized with the coronavirus in Burke County. No new cases of COVID-19 were reported Tuesday in Alexander County, leaving the total at 302, with two deaths.

Four new cases of the coronavirus were confirmed in Caldwell County Tuesday, increasing the total to 1,231 with 16 deaths. There were 19 people hospitalized and at least 673 COVID-19 patients had recovered. Caldwell County recently purchased thermal imaging systems for its public buildings. The systems, designed to automate body temperature screening, allows staff to efficiently and effectively check temperatures of everyone entering county facilities.
