Wednesday Crash Results In Fatality

A Denver, N.C. man was killed in a crash Wednesday (February 1). The deceased is 37-year-old Ryne Francis Elzer. Wednesday at approximately 12:55 p.m., the N.C. State Highway Patrol responded to N.C. 16, near N.C. 16 Business in Lincoln County. A 2014 Hyundai Tucson was traveling north on N.C. 16, drove off the right side of the road, struck the guardrail several times, and collided with a 2014 Freightliner truck that was parked off the roadway.

The driver of the Hyundai Tucson, Ryne Francis Elzer, passed away as a result of his injuries at the scene. He was restrained by a seatbelt. The driver of the Freightliner truck, a Maiden resident, was not injured. The initial investigation does not indicate impairment to be a contributing factor and no charges will be filed in this case.

During the on-scene investigation, the roadway was partially closed in the area for approximately two hours.
