A woman was killed in a Thursday (November 9) crash in Watauga County. The deceased is 65-year-old Nancy Wilson May of the Watauga County community of Zionville.

On Thursday, at approximately 3:25 p.m., the North Carolina State Highway Patrol responded to U.S. 421 near Brown Road. A 2001 Toyota Highlander was traveling north on U.S. 421, crossed the center line, traveled off the left side of the road, went down an embankment, became airborne, struck a tree, and overturned.

The driver of the Highlander, Nancy Wilson May, passed away as a result of her injuries at the scene. The initial investigation does not indicate speed or impairment to be contributing factors in the collision.
