Vale Couple Charged with Felony Child Abuse
38-year-old Jonathan Niles Orren and 39-year-old Silvia Orren, both from Vale, have been arrested by Lincoln County Sheriff’s Officers and charged with one felony count each of child abuse involving serious injury.
Events leading to the arrests began on May 12 when Lincoln County Detectives received a report from the Cleveland County Department of Social Services concerning the abuse of a child that allegedly occurred at a residence in Vale.
The young child was in speech therapy in Cleveland County when the therapist noticed bruising on the child’s buttocks. A Cleveland County social worker went to the residence and met with the parents. Photos were taken of a wooden paddle with holes drilled in it. The worker also viewed home security footage showing the child being spanked with the wooden paddle.
A Lincoln County Detective went to the residence to follow-up on the investigation and also saw the home security footage. The investigation revealed that the child had been abused on a number of different occasions. The six-year-old victim and her five-year-old brother have been removed from the home and placed with relatives out of state.
Jonathan Orren and Silvia Orren, who are husband and wife, were charged and arrested on May 17. Silvia Orren was released under an unsecured bond, while Jonathan Orren was released under a $7,500 secured bond. No court dates are currently listed.
