Valdese Woman Charged With Drug Offenses Following Traffic Stop

42-year-old Khristy Lynn Woody of Frank Barus Road in Valdese was arrested Wednesday (July 12) by Morganton Public Safety Officers. She’s charged with felony possession of schedule II controlled substance and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.

Shortly before 1:30 p.m. Wednesday a Public Safety Officer initiated a traffic stop on a white Honda Civic due to the vehicle’s registration being expired. The vehicle was stopped on West Union Street in Morganton. During the traffic stop, it was learned that the Burke County Sheriff’s Office was looking for the vehicle due to unauthorized use.

While waiting on the arrival of the Sheriff’s Office, a K9 sniff was conducted on the vehicle which resulted in a positive alert to the presence of narcotics. A search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of methamphetamine in the pocketbook of the rear passenger, Khristy Woody. One gram of meth was seized by police.

Woody was brought to the Burke County Jail under $3,000 secured bond. She was not listed as an inmate in Burke County as of earlier today (July 14). A District Court appearance was scheduled today.
