Valdese Sex Offender Arrested for Federal Parole Violation

49-year-old Thomas Tracy Whisnant of Greentree Acres Road in Valdese has been arrested for a federal parole violation. He was arrested on April 24 as the result of a joint undercover operation involving the Burke County Sheriff’s Criminal Investigations & Narcotics divisions and the U.S. Marshals Service Carolinas Regional Fugitive Task Force

Whisnant, who is a registered sex offender, failed to comply with probationary guidelines. He’s on the North Carolina Sex Offender Registry as the result of felony convictions in Burke County in 1996 and 2003. Whisnant was convicted of attempted rape or attempted sex offense in connection with an incident that occurred in April of 1994. The victim was 18-years-old and Whisnant was 19 at the time of the offense. He was also convicted of indecent liberties with a minor in connection with an incident in July of 2001. In that case, Whisnant was 26 and the victim was nine.

He was taken into custody without incident Wednesday by Undercover Officers, Agents, and Investigators. Following his arrest, Whisnant was jailed without bond with a court date pending.
