54-year-old Reginald Allen Miller of Nellie Street NW in Valdese was arrested by Burke County Sheriff’s Officers. He’s charged with felony trafficking schedule II controlled substance (fentanyl).
On December 8, 2023, the Burke County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations/Narcotics Division was conducting a routine patrol in the Drexel community, after numerous citizen complaints about illegal activities in the area. At approximately 3:45 p.m., investigators spotted Reginald Allen Miller at the intersection of Drexel Road and Highway 70 operating a motor vehicle.
Once Miller noticed investigators, he turned onto Highway 70 heading east and his driving became increasingly erratic, until after approximately half a mile, he turned abruptly onto Gurley Street without initiating a turn signal. Investigators initiated contact with Miller as he exited the vehicle and approached a residence on Gurley Street.
During the investigation, it was determined that Miller did not live at the residence at which he had stopped, and the residents had no associations with him. While on the scene, obvious suspicion of narcotics was developed and a search of the vehicle and Miller was conducted. More than four grams of a powdery substance was recovered in his possession.
The substance was wrapped in individual packaging and appeared to be for resale. The substance was field tested on scene and tested presumptively positive for fentanyl. According to a news release from the Sheriff’s Office, the estimated lethal dose of fentanyl is approximately two milligrams, depending on the tolerance and purity levels of the substance.
Miller’s bond was set at $50,000. He was not listed as an inmate as of earlier today (December 18). No court dates were listed.
