Update Released On Double-Murder/Suicide, Names Of Those Involved Revealed By Authorities

The names of those involved in a double-murder/suicide have been released. The Statesville Police Department issued an update Tuesday (May 28).

On May 24, shortly after 7 a.m., the Statesville Police Department received a call regarding a shooting incident in the 100 block of Bunker Hill Lane. Upon arrival, officers discovered 26-year-old Simone Octavia Williams, deceased on the front porch of the caller’s residence, with an apparent gunshot wound.

Witnesses identified the shooter as 39-year-old Nicholas Goolsby, of Bunker Hill Lane and reported that Goolsby had retreated to his residence after shooting Williams. Officers quickly set up a perimeter around the Goolsby residence, and the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene with their armored vehicle. Entry was made to the residence, and the U.S. Marshals Service Carolinas Regional Fugitive Task Force (CRFTF) began a search using a robot.

A ten-month-old child was found on the first floor of the residence. Members of the Statesville Police Department’s Special Response Team (SRT) entered the residence and safely removed the child. Continuing the search with the robot, two deceased individuals were found in an upstairs bedroom. They were identified as 36-year-old Brandi Delia Goolsby and Nicholas Goolsby, both residents of the Bunker Hill Lane residence. Evidence from the scene indicates that Nicholas Goolsby shot Brandi Goolsby before taking his own life.

It was determined that Simone Octavia Williams resided at the same residence with Nicholas and Brandi Goolsby. The ten-month-old child was taken to a local hospital for evaluation and has since been released into the custody of family members.
