Update: Pedestrian Struck And Killed Sunday Morning Identified By Authorities

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol has released the identity of a pedestrian who was killed in an early Sunday morning (March 10) crash in Burke County. The deceased has been identified as 31-year-old Chang Ching Yang of Hickory.

At approximately midnight Sunday morning, Highway Patrol responded to the incident on George Hildebran School Road near Wilkies Grove Church Road. A Jeep Grand Cherokee was traveling east on George Hildebran Road and struck a pedestrian walking eastbound in the roadway. The pedestrian was wearing dark clothing and the roadway was not lighted. The name of the deceased was not initially known, and Highway Patrol requested the public’s assistance in identifying him, as previously reported on WHKY.

The driver of the Grand Cherokee, a Connelly Springs man, was not injured. The initial investigation does not indicate impairment or speed to be contributing factors in the collision. During the on-scene investigation, the roadway was closed in the area for approximately three hours. No charges will be filed in this case against the driver.
