Update On Officer Involved Shooting in Alexander County

On Sunday, May 12, 2024 the Alexander County Sheriff’s Office received information of a wanted person at 145 Dusty Road in Taylorsville. The individual had five warrants for their arrest.

As previously reported on WHKY, Officers arrived at approximately 9:58 p.m. to find the wanted individual, 39-year-old Jason Melvin Williams of Taylorsville, outside of the residence. Officers began giving him verbal commands but the individual fled on foot. During the chase, one of the Officers was able to catch Williams and a fight ensued. The individual fired a handgun at the Officer. The Officer returned fire, killing the individual. The deceased is 39-year-old Jason Melvin Williams of Taylorsville. Williams had five orders for arrest for failure to appear on felony possession of methamphetamine, larceny, possession of stolen property, and three counts probation violation out of county. Williams was also charged with failing to appear on misdemeanor resisting a public officer, possession of marijuana paraphernalia, possession of drug paraphernalia, and simple possession of schedule six controlled substance.

The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation was called in to investigate the Officer involved shooting. The officer involved has been placed on paid administrative leave.
