Unemployment Rates Fall Across Hickory Metro

Unemployment rates decreased in all of the Greater Hickory Metro Counties according to the latest update. The report was issued Thursday (December 2) by the North Carolina Department of Commerce Labor and Economic Analysis Division. The statistics are for October.

Catawba County’s unemployment rate is 3.4 percent, down from 3.5 percent in September. Alexander County has a jobless rate of 3.1 percent, which is down from 3.2 in the last report. Burke County’s unemployment rate fell to 3.3 percent from 3.5 percent in September. Caldwell County is showing a jobless rate of 3.6 percent, down from 3.7 in the last report.

The unemployment rate for the Hickory-Lenoir-Morganton Metropolitan Statistical Area or MSA is 3.4 percent, down from 3.5 in September. Hickory-Lenoir-Morganton has the fifth lowest jobless rate among 15 MSAs in the state.

The statewide unemployment rate is 3.6 percent, down from 3.8 in the September report. Unemployment rates fell in 83 of North Carolina’s 100 counties, increased in eight, and remained unchanged in nine. Scotland County has the highest unemployment rate at 7.8 percent and Orange County has the lowest jobless rate statewide at 2.6 percent.
