Unemployment Rates Drop In Most Of Hickory Metro

Unemployment rates decreased across much of the Hickory Metro and rates fell or stayed unchanged across most of the state in the latest update from the North Carolina Department of Commerce Labor & Economic Analysis Division. The report shows the February unemployment numbers.

Catawba County’s unemployment rate is 3.4 percent, down from 3.5 in January. Alexander County’s jobless percentage is 3.1, the same as the previous report. Burke County is showing an unemployment rate of 3.3 percent, down from 3.4 in January. Caldwell County’s jobless rate is 3.6 percent, a slight decrease from 3.7 in the previous report.

The unemployment rate for the Hickory-Lenoir-Morganton Metropolitan Statistical Area or MSA is 3.4 percent, down from 3.5 in January. Hickory-Lenoir-Morganton has the fifth lowest unemployment rate among 15 MSAs in the state.

The statewide unemployment rate is 3.7 percent, down from 3.8 in January. Jobless rates decreased in 50 counties, increased in 12, and remained unchanged in 38. Hyde County has the highest unemployment rate at 8.9 percent while Orange County has the lowest at 2.5.
