Ultra-Light Plane Crashes in Burke County

At about 9:10 this morning (July 1), the North Carolina State Highway Patrol responded to an airplane crash in Burke County on Mountain Shadows Drive. After departing from a private airfield, an ultra-light glider struck several trees and crash-landed in the woods. The pilot, 45-year-old Christopher Ryan Short of Morganton, was transported by medical helicopter to Mission Hospital in Asheville with non-life-threatening injuries. The Highway Patrol has secured the scene.
