Two Watauga County Sheriff’s Deputies were shot today (April 28) during a standoff in Boone.
At about 9:45 this morning, Deputies were called to perform a welfare check at an address on Hardaman Circle in Boone after the homeowner and family didn’t show up at work and did not respond to phone calls.
Deputies entered the residence after they found that all the residents’ vehicles were on the property. After entering, an unknown assailant shot at the Deputies. Two Deputies were hit. One was extracted from the scene and flown to the Johnson City Medical Center for treatment. As of four o’clock this afternoon, the other wounded Officer remains on the scene, condition unknown.
At last report, the shooter was still barricaded in the home and continues to shoot in the direction of Officers. Nearby residents have been evacuated. No further information has been released.
