Two Suspects Charged With Firearm Offenses Following Traffic Stop

40-year-old Thomas Wayne Carlson and 32-year-old Echo Danielle Camp, both of the same Walker Road, Morganton address, were arrested Thursday (February 22) by Morganton Public Safety Officers.

Carlson is charged with possession of a firearm by a felon, possession with intent to manufacture, sell, and deliver schedule IV controlled substance, carrying a concealed weapon, no liability insurance, and fictitious registration plate. Camp is charged with possession of a firearm by a felon and two counts of carrying a concealed weapon.

Thursday at approximately 10:00 p.m., a Morganton Public Safety Officer was patrolling Burkemont Avenue when she spotted a vehicle without a registration plate attached to the rear. The officer conducted a vehicle stop as the SUV turned onto Walker Road. Once the vehicle was stopped, the officer found both occupants, Thomas Wayne Carlson and Echo Danielle Camp inside the passenger area.

During the course of the investigation, officers reportedly found three firearms in the vehicle, two of which had been concealed by the occupants. A criminal history check of both Carlson and Camp revealed that they were both convicted felons and not allowed to possess firearms. A subsequent search of the vehicle also revealed numerous quantities of a Schedule IV controlled substance and a sizable amount of U.S. currency.

The suspects were taken into custody and placed in the Burke County Jail early this morning (February 23). Carlson was jailed without bond on a 48-hour-hold, Camp received a $7,500 secured bond. They were both scheduled to appear in District Court today.
