29-year-old Landon Dale Foster and 18-year-old Madison Renee Gilliland were arrested Thursday (August 20) by Morganton Public Safety Officers. Foster is charged with felony speeding to elude arrest. In addition, Foster is charged with reckless driving, speeding, driving left of center, failure to maintain lane control, resisting a public officer, stop light violation and red light violation. Foster is also charged on an order for arrest from McDowell County with probation violation. Gilliland is charged with felony counts of possession with intent to manufacture, sell, and deliver methamphetamine and possession of controlled substance on jail premises, along with a misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia.
Thursday, at approximately 3:00 a.m., a Morganton Public Safety Officer saw a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed on Interstate 40. Radar showed the vehicle traveling at over 100 miles per hour. The officer began to pursue the vehicle on I-40 until it exited onto Jamestown Road at Exit 100. The vehicle continued onto Reep Drive and then stopped on Carbon City Road.
The driver exited the vehicle and fled on foot behind a local business. The officer deployed his K9 Partner, Echo, and received assistance from additional Morganton Public Safety Officers. Officers from the Glen Alpine Police Department and the Burke County Sheriff’s Office also responded. The driver was apprehended after a short foot chase and identified as Landon Dale Foster. Madison Renee Gilliland was inside the vehicle and was arrested for possession of a controlled substance.
Both suspects were placed in jail in Morganton. Foster’s bond was set at $65,000 secured, Gilliland received a $20,000 secured bond. They were both scheduled to appear in District Court today (August 21).[Photos of suspects courtesy of the Burke County Police to Citizen (P2C) website]
