Two Shot, One Killed In Shootings Wednesday In Hickory

On Wednesday (July 29) at approximately 3:40 p.m., Hickory Police Officers responded to an address on 1st Street SW after receiving several 911 calls in reference to multiple gunshots being fired in the area. Upon arrival, officers found numerous shell casings in the roadway of 1st Street SW.

At 3:44 p.m., a 911 call was received in reference to a male in a silver Nissan passenger vehicle with a gunshot wound requesting help from a resident in the 200 block of 3rd Street SE. Upon arrival, officers found 30-year-old Donald Simpson with a single gunshot wound. Catawba County EMS responded and pronounced Simpson dead at the scene.

At 3:49 p.m., the Hickory Police Department was contacted about a second person with a gunshot wound seeking medical treatment at Frye Regional Medical Center. Upon arrival, Officers found a 25-year-old man with a single gunshot wound. He was treated for his injuries and released from Frye Regional Medical Center.

It was determined that both Simpson and the second man were shot in the 900 block of 1st Street SW. This is an on-going investigation and authorities are working to identify suspects and determine a motive for the shootings.
