IREDELL COUNTY, N.C. (WHKY) – Police are investigating a reported shooting incident that left two people injured on I-77 in Iredell County. Authorities say the Sunday evening (July 26) incident was an act of road rage. According to published reports, Mooresville Police were conducting an inquiry into reports of road rage.

The reports say the investigation began on Sunday when a black Kia crashed on Interstate 77 near Exit 35, which is Brawley School Road in Mooresville. Two people inside the car, a man and woman, were reportedly shot. Neither of their ages were immediately released.

The published reports say the woman was airlifted to a hospital and was last reported to be in critical condition. I-77 was shut down for several hours on Sunday while police investigated and conducted a search for the shell casings. All of the I-77 lanes were reopened by late Sunday night.

In addition to investigating reports of possible road rage, the published reports say that the Mooresville police chief said his agency was looking into reports of a red truck’s involvement. No arrests had been reported as of Monday afternoon (July 27). WHKY has reached out to responding agencies for more details and as of the time of this article being published, had not heard from them.
