Two Men Charged In Connection To May Shooting
20-year-old Chavion Quane’ Smith of Statesville and 29-year-old Na`shawn Amontea Lester of Charlotte were arrested by Statesville Police Officers. They’re both charged with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and three counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury. Lester is additionally charged with felony conspiracy.
On May 2, 2023, the Statesville Police Department responded to a shooting at an address on Fifth Street. After the shooting, four victims arrived at Iredell Memorial Hospital with gunshot wounds. The Violent Crime Unit initiated an investigation into the shooting, and identified several suspects based on obtained evidence.
On May 18, 2023, warrants were issued for Chavion Quane’ Smith, a 20-year-old resident of Statesville. Smith was apprehended by US Marshals in Greensboro on May 31 and was granted a $1,000,000 secured bond by the magistrate.
On June 15, 2023, warrants were issued for Na`shawn Amontea Lester. Lester was taken into custody by the US Marshals in Charlotte on June 22 and also received a $1,000,000 secured bond by the magistrate.
Lester was being held in the Iredell County Detention Center, Smith was not listed as an inmate in Iredell County as of earlier today (June 26). No additional information was available. The investigation is continuing. Lester was scheduled to appear in District Court today. Smith has a District Court September 13.
