Two Men Arrested After Early Sunday Smash And Grab At Taylorsville Pharmacy

Two men are in custody following a smash and grab at a Taylorsville pharmacy early Sunday morning. 26-year old Juinohn Khial Morton of Greensboro is charged with felony breaking and entering a pharmacy, felony larceny after breaking and entering and driving while license revoked. 20-year old Dilion Janquan McCain of Greensboro is charged with felony breaking and entering a pharmacy and felony larceny after breaking and entering.

Taylorsville Police Chief Douglas Bowman says his department was alerted around 2:25 am of a break-in at People’s Drugs on Highway 16 South. Alexander County 911 received a call from a motorist traveling Highway 16 that spotted a silver sedan with a door open in the People’s parking lot. A few seconds later a subject ran toward the vehicle carrying items. The subject fell while attempting to enter the sedan and was struck and dragged a short distance before gaining entry to the suspected getaway vehicle.

A full inventory to confirm merchandise taken has not been released but the suspect or suspects were in the store a minute or less after gaining entry by breaking the front glass door. Taylorsville Police Officers along with Alexander County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the scene and alerted all area medical facilities to be on-the-look-out for a subject that was showing signs of injuries that might be typical of being struck by a vehicle.

Later in the early morning hours, Iredell Memorial Medical Center in Statesville told Taylorsville Police that a subject had entered the emergency room suffering injuries often seen when a person is struck by a vehicle. Taylorsville Police responded to the hospital and spotted the suspect sedan in the parking lot. Officers arrested two men in the emergency room.

Morton and McCain are being held in the Alexander County Detention Center under a secured bond of $100,000.
