The North Carolina State Highway Patrol is investigating two fatal accidents that occurred over the weekend in Lincoln County.
At about 8:15 Saturday night (April 10), the Highway Patrol responded to an accident on N.C. Highway 150, near Confederate Road. A 1999 Ford F-150 traveling east on Highway 150 crossed the center line and sideswiped a westbound 2002 Honda Accord. The truck continued off the road to the left, traveled down an embankment, and hit a tree.
The driver of the Ford, 82-year-old Dwayne George Moffat, Jr. of Denver, passed away at the scene. He was not restrained by a seatbelt. The driver of the Honda, a 57-year-old Cherryville woman, was not injured. The highway was closed for about 90 minutes during the on-scene investigation.
At about 11:05 on Sunday morning (April 11), the Highway Patrol responded to an accident on Reepsville Road, near Seagletown Road. A 2006 Chevrolet Colorado traveling east on Reepsville Road ran off the road to the left, struck an embankment, and overturned.
The driver, 56-year-old Sherry Lynn Noles of Vale, died at the scene. She was not restrained by a seatbelt. The roadway was closed for approximately two hours during the on-scene investigation.
