Two Agencies Charge Taylorsville Man With Total Of More Than 100 Felony Peeping Offenses (Updated, 1:39 p.m., 3/5/21)

32-year-old Michael Justin Childers of Taylorsville was arrested Thursday (March 4) by officers with the Alexander County Sheriff’s Office and Taylorsville Police Department. The Alexander County Sheriff’s Office charged him with 55 counts of felony possession of secret peeping material and two counts of felony secret peeping. Taylorsville Police charged him with 53 counts of felony secret peeping and nine counts of felony indecent liberties with a minor. The Alexander County Sheriff’s Office issued an update this afternoon (March 5) explaining that the indecent liberties charges stem from the secret peeping of minor victims.

The arrest stems from an ongoing investigation that began in December of 2020 that initiated from Wittenburg Elementary School in Alexander County. Authorities say they found numerous videos in Childers’ possession. The videos that were discovered are not connected to Wittenburg Elementary School. The videos appear to have been taken between 2016 and 2019, while Childers was an employee of Walmart in Taylorsville.

The two counts of Felony Secret Peeping that were issued by the Sheriff’s Office stemmed from a video that was taken at a residence in Alexander County. Childers was arrested at his residence at approximately 4 p.m. Thursday. Childers was placed in the Alexander County Detention Center under a $1.25 million dollar secured bond. He remained in jail as of earlier today. A District Court appearance is scheduled for next Monday (March 8). The investigation is continuing by Alexander County Sheriff’s Office and Taylorsville Police Department.
