Tuesday Morning COVID-19 Update: Deaths Reported In Three Hickory Metro Counties

A COVID-19-associated death was reported Monday (November 16) by Catawba County Public Health, raising the total to 75 since the start of the pandemic. In addition, 91 new cases of the coronavirus were confirmed, increasing the total to 5,813. There were 45 people hospitalized in Catawba County with COVID, one more than Sunday’s (November 15) total.

On Monday, the Caldwell County Health Department confirmed the county’s 39th COVID-19-related death and an outbreak at a long-term care facility. The patient who passed away was over the age 75, had been hospitalized, and was reported to have underlying health conditions. Three staff members and one resident have tested positive for COVID-19 at Brookdale. In congregate living settings, an outbreak of COVID-19 is defined as two or more laboratory-confirmed cases within a 28-day period.

74 new coronavirus cases were reported in Caldwell County between Friday afternoon (November 13) and Monday afternoon. The overall total is now 3,062. There were 20 Caldwell County residents hospitalized with COVID-19.

Burke County Public Health was notified Monday of the 65th coronavirus-associated death in Burke County. The individual was in their 90s and was hospitalized. 92 additional COVID-19 cases were added in Burke County since the last update, increasing the total to 3,591. There were ten people hospitalized in Burke County with the coronavirus.

No new COVID-19 cases were reported Monday in Alexander County, leaving the total at 1,217, with 13 deaths.
