In addition, 22 new cases of the coronavirus were confirmed Monday, increasing the overall total to 2,346. 19 people were hospitalized, three more than Sunday (August 16).
Health officials in Caldwell County learned of the 18th COVID-19-related death in the County Monday. The patient, who was between the ages of 65 and 74, had been hospitalized and was reported to have underlying health conditions. 40 new cases of the coronavirus were confirmed from Friday (August 14) to Monday afternoon in Caldwell County, increasing the total to 1,305. There were 19 people hospitalized and at least 682 patients had recovered.

There have been 30 coronavirus-related deaths in Burke County, and nine people were hospitalized Monday. At least 1,562 patients have recovered. No new cases of the coronavirus were confirmed Monday in Alexander County, keeping the total at 324, with two deaths.
