The 66th COVID-19-associated death in Catawba County was reported Monday (November 2) by Public Health. 91 new cases of the coronavirus were reported Monday in Catawba County, increasing the overall total to 4,762. Hospitalizations increased to 40. The 91 new cases represents the second-highest single-day total of new cases in the county.
Burke County Public Health reported the 59th and 60th coronavirus-related deaths in the county. One of the individuals was in their 60s and the other was in their 50s and both were hospitalized. 78 additional COVID-19 cases were added since the last report from Burke County health officials, increasing the total to 3,173. There were six people hospitalized.
The Alexander County Health Department Monday reported the addition of 112 new cases of COVID-19 since the last report, increasing the total to 973, with 10 deaths. 154 people were in quarantine with the coronavirus, that total includes 58 inmates at the Alexander Correctional Institution. There are 23 Alexander County residents in the hospital with COVID. Of the 973 total cases, at least 786 people have recovered.
Leeanne Whisnant, Consolidated Human Services Director, presented a report at Monday’s meeting of the Alexander County Board of Commissioners, noting that there has been a “tremendous increase in the last few weeks,” with clusters at the prison, a funeral, churches, and a school. County officials encouraged everyone to practice the 3 W’s: wear a mask, wait six feet apart, and wash your hands.
35 new cases of COVID-19 were reported Monday in Caldwell County, raising the total to 2,652, with 32 deaths. There were 21 Caldwell County residents hospitalized with the virus.
