A traffic stop in Statesville led to felony drug charges, a brief foot chase, and the seizure of more than 111 grams of marijuana, according to the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies with the Sheriff’s Office Aggressive Criminal Enforcement (ACE) Team conducted a traffic stop for multiple traffic violations at the intersection of Winston Avenue and Slingshot Road on Friday, May 29.

During the stop, Deputy J. Greene and K-9 Elio responded to assist. Authorities say K-9 Elio alerted deputies to the presence of narcotics inside the vehicle, leading investigators to conduct a search. As deputies continued their investigation, authorities say the driver, 26-year-old James Malcolm Ingram of Salisbury, fled the scene on foot.

K-9 Elio tracked Ingram for more than a quarter mile before deputies located him hiding nearby and took him into custody without further incident. Investigators say a search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of approximately 111.61 grams of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Ingram was charged with felony possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana, felony possession of marijuana, misdemeanor possession of marijuana drug paraphernalia, and misdemeanor resisting, delaying, and obstructing an officer. He was transported to the Iredell County Detention Center, where he was given a no-bond status.

Deputies also arrested a Statesville woman. Authorities say she resisted efforts to detain her during the traffic stop and was charged with misdemeanor resisting, delaying, and obstructing an officer. The Sheriff’s Office credited K-9 Elio and members of the ACE Team with helping locate the fleeing suspect and safely conclude the investigation.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, Ingram was on probation at the time of his arrest. Authorities said his criminal history includes convictions for misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia, conspiracy robbery with a dangerous weapon, fleeing to elude arrest with a motor vehicle, misdemeanor crime of domestic violence, probation violations, and multiple traffic offenses. Lewis’ criminal history includes misdemeanor possession of marijuana, misdemeanor reckless driving to endanger, and multiple traffic violations.
