Traffic Stop Leads To Drug Arrest, Seizure Of Meth

31-year-old Travis James Wise of Scott Trail in Morganton was arrested by Morganton Public Safety Officers. He’s charged with felony possession of schedule II controlled substance along with misdemeanor counts of possession of drug paraphernalia and resist, delay, or obstruct a public officer. A second suspect was also arrested in this case and charged with a misdemeanor offense.

On May 2, a Public Safety Officer conducted a traffic stop on Burkemont Avenue in Morganton. The officer stopped a 2005 Subaru Legacy that was operated by a driver with a revoked license. The officer made contact with the vehicle’s occupants including the driver, Travis James Wise. During the investigation, police seized .5 grams of methamphetamine along with items including a plastic baggie containing fentanyl residue.

Wise was previously charged in Burke County with two counts of driving while license revoked. District Court dates are scheduled for May 24 and May 31 on those charges. Following the May 2 arrest, Wise was incarcerated in the Burke County Jail under $5,500 secured bond. He was not listed as an inmate in Burke County as of earlier today (May 9) A District Court date on the charges filed on that date is scheduled for May 24.
