Traffic Stop Leads To Drug Arrest, Seizure Of Fentanyl

40-year-old Matthew August Caiaccia of Bennett Road in Morganton was arrested last Friday (July 14) by Morganton Public Safety Officers. He’s charged with felony possession of schedule II controlled substance and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.

Just before 2 a.m. last Friday a Public Safety Officer conducted a traffic stop on a silver 2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee on Jamestown Road in Morganton. The vehicle was reportedly displaying an expired temporary registration plate. After making contact with the Cherokee’s occupants, the officer conducted a probable cause search of the vehicle.

According to police records, the search resulted in the discovery of one gram of fentanyl, which was seized by the officer. Caiaccia was placed under arrest on the drug charges. He was incarcerated in the Burke County Jail under $10,000 secured bond. Caiaccia remained in jail as of earlier today (July 18). His next District Court date is August 4.
