Traffic Stop Leads To Drug Arrest In Burke County

42-year-old Lisa Marie Santana of Pine Street in Morganton was arrested Friday (May 5) by Morganton Public Safety Officers. She’s charged with felony possession of schedule II controlled substance (methamphetamine) and misdemeanor failure to appear on a count of failure to comply. A second suspect was arrested in this case and charged with a misdemeanor offense.

Shortly before 5 p.m. Friday Public Safety Officers conducted a traffic stop on Pine Street at North Street in Morganton. Lisa Santana was identified as the driver of the vehicle and was found to have an outstanding warrant for arrest. A search was conducted and a small amount of a clear, crystal-like substance was found in Santana’s possession. The officer who found the substance recognized it to be consistent with methamphetamine. It was later field tested and did test positive for meth.

According to the North Carolina Department Of Adult Correction Offender Public Information website, Santana’s criminal history includes drug convictions in Burke and Cleveland Counties dating back to 2012, with the most recent being in March, 2021. Following Friday’s arrest, Santana was brought to the Burke County Jail under a $4,000 secured bond. She is not listed as an inmate today (May 8). A District Court appearance was scheduled today.
