32 new cases of COVID-19 were confirmed Wednesday (October 7) by Catawba County Public Health, moving the overall total to 3,436, with 57 deaths. Coronavirus hospitalizations in Catawba County rose above 30, with two more being added Wednesday to increase the total to 31.
On Wednesday, the Caldwell County Health Department confirmed a cluster of COVID cases at Merchant Distributors (MDI), bringing the total number of active clusters in the county to five. MDI has worked closely with the Health Department since the beginning of the pandemic to monitor and review the company’s practices and prevent the spread of COVID in their facility. A cluster is defined as a minimum of five cases with illness onsets or initial positive results within a 14-day period and a plausible epidemiological link.
39 new cases of the coronavirus were confirmed Wednesday in Caldwell County, increasing the total to 1,873, with 29 deaths. There were 14 Caldwell County residents hospitalized with COVID-19 Wednesday. Burke County Public Health reported 25 new cases of COVID-19 Wednesday. The total is now 2,579, with 48 deaths.
