Thursday Morning COVID-19 Update: No Deaths Reported In Hickory Metro, Mask Mandate To Be Eased In NC

Ten new cases of COVID-19 were reported Wednesday (April 28) by Catawba County Public Health, increasing the total to 18,451, with 300 deaths. Hospitalizations remained at 14. The latest update shows that 27% of Catawba County’s residents are fully vaccinated against COVID-19. One new case of COVID-19 was reported Wednesday in Alexander County, increasing the total to 4,323, with 86 deaths. Five people were hospitalized.

14 new cases of the coronavirus were confirmed in Burke County, increasing the total to 9,981, with 154 deaths. Five people were hospitalized. 11 new cases of COVID-19 were confirmed in Caldwell County Wednesday, raising the total to 9,258, with 147 deaths. There were six people hospitalized.

On Wednesday, Governor Roy Cooper issued a new Executive Order that eases the mask mandate. Under the new order, which takes effect Friday (April 30), masks will still be required indoors but are no longer mandated outdoors. Masks are still strongly recommended outdoors by the Department of Health and Human Services in crowded areas and higher risk settings where social distancing is difficult.
