Thursday Morning COVID-19 Update: Deaths Reported In Three Hickory Metro Counties

Two COVID-19-related deaths were reported Wednesday (January 13) by Catawba County Public Health, increasing the total to 203. There were 93 new cases of the coronavirus Wednesday, increasing the total to 13,439. There were 100 people hospitalized with the virus in Catawba County, 13 fewer than Tuesday’s (January 14) update.

Three coronavirus-associated deaths were reported Wednesday in Caldwell County, increasing the total to 86 since the start of the pandemic. Two of the patients were between the ages of 50 and 64 and one was between the ages of 65 and 74. All three patients had underlying health conditions. Two were hospitalized, and one was associated with the Lenoir Healthcare outbreak.

95 new cases of the virus were reported Wednesday by the Caldwell County Health Department, increasing the total to 7,186. There were 45 Caldwell residents hospitalized with COVID-19 as of Wednesday. The Health Department reported seven active outbreaks and five active clusters.

According to the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, there have been 40 COVID-19-related deaths in Alexander County, two more than the previous update. 18 new cases of the virus were added in Alexander on Wednesday, increasing the total to 3,112.

74 new cases of COVID-19 were reported by Burke County health officials Wednesday, increasing the tally to 7,619, with 92 deaths. There were 26 Burke County residents hospitalized with the virus.
