Eight COVID-19-related deaths were reported Wednesday (December 9) by Catawba County Public Health, increasing the total to 114 since the start of the pandemic. In addition, 126 new cases of the coronavirus were confirmed Wednesday, raising the total to 8,466. There were 80 people hospitalized with the virus, the same total as Tuesday (December 8).
The Caldwell County Health Department confirmed an outbreak Wednesday at Lenoir Healthcare. One resident and one staff member tested positive at the facility. This is the second outbreak at that location. In the first outbreak, which closed on September 14, three staff members and one resident tested positive. In congregate living settings, an outbreak of COVID-19 is defined as two or more laboratory-confirmed cases within a 28-day period.
59 new cases of COVID-19 were reported Wednesday in Caldwell County, lifting the overall total to 4,072, with 52 deaths. There were 33 Caldwell County residents hospitalized with the coronavirus on Wednesday. 53 new cases of the coronavirus were reported in Burke County Wednesday, increasing the count to 4,828, with 71 deaths. There were 21 people hospitalized in Burke County with COVID-19.
The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services reports 1,923 COVID-19 cases in Alexander County today (December 10), an increase of 37 from the previous update. There have been 19 coronavirus-associated deaths in Alexander County.
