Thursday Morning COVID-19 Update: Deaths Reported In Catawba, Burke Counties Wednesday

Catawba County Public Health reported a COVID-19 death Wednesday (August 12), increasing the total to 31 since the start of the coronavirus outbreak. 20 new cases of COVID-19 were confirmed Wednesday in Catawba County, increasing the overall total to 2,205. 17 people are hospitalized with the coronavirus, one fewer than Tuesday (August 11).

15,995 of the 18,170 COVID-19 tests completed in Catawba County have been negative, a positive rate of approximately 12%. The death rate among those who test positive is 1.4%, and at least 1,772 have recovered.

Burke County Public Health was notified Wednesday of the 29th & 30th COVID-19 associated deaths in the county. The individuals in their 80’s and 90’s were not hospitalized but died from complications associated with their underlying medical conditions. Six new coronavirus cases were confirmed in Burke County Wednesday, increasing the total to 1,795. Seven people were hospitalized, that’s six fewer than a day before, and at least 1,429 patients had recovered.

The Alexander County Health Department reported ten additional COVID-19 infections Wednesday, increasing the total to 312, with two deaths. Four people were in the hospital, 38 coronavirus patients were quarantined, and at least 268 people have recovered. 22 new COVID-19 cases were confirmed Wednesday in Caldwell County, increasing the total to 1,253, with 16 deaths. There were 18 people hospitalized, one fewer than Tuesday, and at least 673 patients had recovered.
