Thursday Morning COVID-19 Update: Death Reported Weds. In Catawba County, Three Hickory Metro Counties Report New Cases

A COVID-19-related death was reported Wednesday (August 26) by Catawba County Public Health. There have been 43 coronavirus-associated fatalities since the start of the pandemic. In addition, 23 new cases were confirmed Wednesday in Catawba County, increasing the overall total to 2,550. 16 people are hospitalized, one fewer than Tuesday (August 25).

12 new COVID-19 infections were reported Wednesday in Burke County, increasing the overall total to 1,977, with 33 deaths. There were 11 people hospitalized with the coronavirus. No new coronavirus cases were reported Wednesday in Alexander County. The total remained at 365, with two deaths.

19 cases of the coronavirus were confirmed Wednesday in Caldwell County, upping the total to 1,401, with 20 deaths. There were 19 Caldwell County residents hospitalized with COVID-19 as of Wednesday. Another case was reported in the outbreak at the Lenoir Health Care. The outbreak now stands at four; three employees and one resident. The Health Department also continues to follow outbreaks at Caldwell Correctional Facility and Hickory Falls Rehabilitation and Healthcare.
