Thursday Morning COVID-19 Update: Death Reported In Burke County, More Than 100 New Cases In Hickory Metro

47 new cases of COVID-19 were reported Wednesday (October 21) in Catawba County, increasing the total to 4,054, with 61 deaths. There were 31 people hospitalized with the coronavirus in Catawba County, one fewer than Tuesday (October 20). Burke County Public Health reported the 52nd COVID-19-related death in the county. The individual was in their 90s and was not hospitalized. 21 new cases of COVID-19 were reported Wednesday in Burke County, raising the overall total to 2,859. There were nine people hospitalized with the coronavirus in Burke County.

56 new coronavirus infections were reported Wednesday in Caldwell County, increasing the total to 2,258, with 30 deaths. There were 14 people hospitalized with COVID-19 in Caldwell County. No new cases of COVID-19 were reported Wednesday in Alexander County, leaving the total at 700, with nine deaths. North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper announced during Wednesday’s COVID-19 briefing that due to rising numbers of coronavirus cases in recent days, the state would remain paused in phase 3 for the next three weeks, until Friday, November 13.
